But the Law also shows us the truly blessed way to live – as Mary and Joseph found their joy in a godly life, so should we see the Law as a guide for Christian living, as the roadmap for saying thank you to the Lord for all His grace and mercy to us.
BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES: Did You Know: It’s not too late! On December 26th, the radio stations who have played Christmas music since Thanksgiving suddenly revert to their normal programming, the stores price all the Christmas decorations for quick sale, and the presents have all been opened. When December 26th comes, we know that Christmas Day is over and it's time to return to reality. But I want you to know that December 25th is not the final day of the Christmas season. It's actually the first day of this joyous season on our Church Calendar.
I'm sure you've heard of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. For the most part, the Twelve Days of Christmas is familiar because of the famous Christmas Carol that lists the numerically increasing gifts from the singer's “true love” What many people don't realize is that the Twelve Days of Christmas is a distinction that the Church gives to Christmas Day and the eleven days that follow it. The Christmas season actually ends on December 6th when we celebrate the Epiphany.
Christians have an opportunity to take these twelve days to continue to revel in the joy, peace and excitement that is Christ's birth. Perhaps our loved ones have returned to their homes and jobs in other parts of the world, maybe the cookies and Christmas treats are all eaten up, but you can still celebrate and remember the Christ Child's birth. With the commercialization of Christmas, we are told that this beloved season is about the presents, the parties, the food, and the decorations. While these are certainly joyful aspects of this celebration, we can still be joyful and glad without them.
As this Christmas season goes on for a few more days, I invite you to continue to celebrate and be glad in knowing that your Savior was born to Mary, and through Him your salvation is assured.
Merry Christmas!
Pastor Mike

<iframe width="250" height="400" src="//www.churchart.com/birthdays/birthdays.aspx?id=73814418" frameborder="0" style="width: 468px; There are also mentions of special worship services, thoughts on gift exchanges and family gatherings, reminders not to get all caught up in the commercialism of Christmas, as well as an encouragement to remember the best gift of all… the baby Jesus in the manger, born with a purpose: to die and rise again to save us.
Well, I’m not going to do that this December. (Wait a minute, I think I just did!) What I am going to do this December is focus on the theme for our Advent midweek services: The Nicene Creed.
I have a picture in my mind that every winter night, you sit down with a warm cup of cocoa, turn off the TV or your smart phone, and curl up with a copy of The Nicene Creed and read and reflect upon it for hours upon end. Am I right? No, of course not!
The Nicene Creed is something we ramble through in church, rarely reflect upon it and probably never get our questions about it answered. Questions such as, “What does ‘Nicene’ mean?” Or, “What does it mean to be ‘very God of very God… begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father?’”
A while back a question in Sunday morning Bible study prompted us to go through The Nicene Creed so that we can better understand it when we recite it in church. I am fairly certain everyone else probably has the same questions about it, too. The LCMS, with over 6,000 congregations, has 10 colleges and two seminaries, along with over 2,000 Lutheran elementary and high schools.

With the universal Christian Church, the LCMS teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, Creator of all that exists; JesusChrist, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments. The three Persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

Being “Lutheran”

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod accepts and teaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the Protestant Reformation of the Christian church in the 16th century. The teachings can be summed up in three phrases:
Grace alone.
Scripture alone.
Faith alone.

Grace alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Scripture alone
The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Faith alone
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

The Word “Synod”
The word “synod” comes from the Greek words that mean “walking together.” LCMS congregations voluntarily choose to belong to the Synod. Diverse in their service, these congregations hold to a shared confession of Jesus Christ as taught in Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

LCMS congregations are “Confessional”
LCMS congregations believe that the Lutheran Confessions are the correct interpretation and presentation of Biblical doctrine. These statements of belief, or confessions, were put into writing by church leaders during the 16th century. The simplest of these is Luther’s Small Catechism. The confessions are contained in The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

www.lcms.org – The official website for the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

www.bookofconcord.org – A site containing the complete Book of Concord (The official statements of Lutheran Belief) including Luther’s Small Catechism which is used for all confirmation classes at St. Paul’s .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod: What About?

A series of 27 pamphlets, written by former Synod President A.L.
